Liam Lawson is returning to Formula 1 in replacement of Daniel Ricciardo at VisaCashApp RB, the Kiwi with 5 Grand Prix starts under his belt will be in the car for the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin and for the final races of the 2024 season.

The news came today from... that the Red Bull test and reserve driver will take the reins of the VCARB 01 from the Circuit Of The Americas onwards at the Italian outfit.

Team Principal Laurent Mekies announced the news and had this to say about his new driver, "I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Liam. He already knows the Team well. He drove for us last season, and coped well under difficult circumstances, so it’ll be a natural transition. It’s great to see young talent from within the Red Bull family make the next step. We’re looking forward to getting our heads down and focusing on the rest of the season together."

The Eight-time Grand Prix winner and twice Monaco pole-sitters form currently lands him 14th in the Standings and 10 points off teammate Yuki Tsunoda.

A rumoured release cause in Liam Lawson's Red Bull contract that, if he didn't get a full-time seat by 2025 he was able to look elsewhere on the grid. In addition, the Australian failing to capture his pre-2021 form in the hope of replacing Sergio Pérez at the main team has seemingly led to the decision to axe Ricciardo after 14 years at the pinnacle of motorsports.

Comments by Christian Horner over the Singapore Grand Prix weekend suggest a change of direction for the future regarding the Red Bull driver programme, “These things are under constant review, and there is obviously a much bigger picture than just Daniel as we continue to look at all of our options, as we move forward,” stated the Red Bull team principal.

“Now, there’s a natural break coming, with effectively almost a month’s gap to the next races. It’s only natural that you’ll take stock and consider all of those options for the final part of the year.”

During his time back at the sister Red Bull team, Daniel has had great drives such as his P7 in Mexico last season fighting with George Russell on the final lap of the race and the likes of this year's Miami Sprint, in which he bagged a sensational P4, holding off the likes of Carlos Sainz and Oscar Piastri for all 19 laps.

Liam during his previous stint in Formula 1 in which he scored 2 points at the Singapore Grand Prix in 2023, has never driven the Circuit of The Americas before. However, last year his 5 race starts showed us his ability to adapt quickly and perform in difficult and challenging circumstances. He will be looking to get off on the right foot and impress in Austin on the 18th of October.
