Dan Zelos executed a measured drive to secure himself his tenth win of the Vertu Mini Challenge season, powering his EXCELR8 machine to the top step of the podium. It was not made easy for Zelos as he had to sustain huge pressure throughout from his two teammates Oliver Meadows, poleman Thomas Jack Lee and the man second to Zelos in the championship Will Orton.
Zelos had a great start and wasted no time in applying pressure, sitting on the back of teammate Lee and by the end of Lap 3 he was ahead. Watching the main feed it was unclear how he got the lead, later It was confirmed after the race that Lee made a small mistake that Dan capitalised on and from then on there was no looking back for the 24-year-old.
The Silverstone National circuit comes with many challenges for the Mini’s early on, for instance, we saw huge right rear tyre warmup issues in the opening portion of the race for the likes of Joe Tanner and Josh Porter who struggled heavily into Brooklands due to the circuit's clockwise-layout and vast straights. The slipstream was vital to stay with the racing pack, dropping out would prove costly for a drivers hopes of scoring a good result, the Top 4 of Zelos, Lee, Meadows and Orton broke free of the chasing pack behind on Lap 7 and increased the gap to the chasing pack behind.
The next 10 Laps of racing was constant nose-to-tail action for the Top 4 and a First, Second and Third for EXCELR8 Motorsports. Zelos survived the constant heat from rivals behind to take the victory with a mature drive from the championship leader, further extending his championship lead.

Elsewhere the midfield fight to try and get into the Top 10 was fierce between several drivers throughout the 20-minute race, most notable was Bradley Gravett’s charge from the lower half of the grid to P8 and was right in the action throughout, it was a tough weekend for the EXCELR8 driver after his gear stick snapped on the opening lap of Race 1 and in Race 2 taking a gamble on slick tyres on a greasy track proved the wrong choice and left him a lap down.
Lydia Walmsley was on for P6 and was trying to close the gap to Jamie Osborne ahead in P5. However, with track limits being so easy to exploit at Silverstone with its numerous high-speed corners and large run-off areas, Lydia was hit with a track limits penalty and dropped down to P9.
Newcomer into the Vertu Mini Challenge this weekend, Spencer Stevenson had a strong Race 3, he went under the radar for the majority of the race as he was running in a well-managed but quite lonely P7 which turned to P6 after Walmsley’s track limit penalty.
Rounding out the Top 10 was Nelson King, pulling off some incredible moves fighting up the field after his slow start off the line in P3 dropping him down the field. One move, in particular, was his send into Brooklands from what felt like a different postcode back on Joe Tanner, it was a sensational overtake and move of the race, earning him a P10 finish.

Another great weekend in the Vertu Mini Challenge at Silverstone which saw Dan Zelos extend his title lead over Will Orton. We now head into the final three rounds of the season at Brands Hatch where the title must be won and where there will no doubt be more immense action out on track.
